The Chapter of Affirmation and Preparedness
Traditionally, before any initiation or ceremony, the initiate would cry, "I am prepared!". This is the nature of our cry; for through it we assert that what we do is entirely in accord with our will, and that we will consciously accept responsibility for the changes we bring upon ourselves.
An initiation is simply the commencement of conscious change. It can be as simple as saying "From this point forward, I take upon myself the responsibility to do such and such". It allows us to defeat our ego, for as we grow to accept the new, we must release the old. This is the nature of evolution. Initiations differ from "natural" evolution, in that their root is consciousness-- the desire to evolve comes from within; not from the four elements of nature, but from spirit.
The passage itself is Aleister Crowley's paraphrase from a portion of the Stélé 666 in the British Museum. It is the voice of Ankh-f-n-Khonsu, "the Lord of Thebes", before he sets off on his journey into the afterlife.
It is a charge to our heart (that is, the seat of consciousness, the ego, or point of consciousness which we consider ourselves, and use to "judge" the infinite universe) to remain silent during our journey into the unknown (represented by the West, the land of the setting sun).
The "dread Lord of the West" is Osiris, who is the Lord of the dead and of the afterlife. In ourselves, he represents who we are after the death of solar-linear consciousness. He represents change, the most powerful of which is death, which is the highest unknown-- for it is the birth into that which we do not and can not know beforehand.
The Cross Qabbalistic

Atoh Thou 406
Atoh, a title of Kether-- it is, by virtue of the Hebrew, Alpha and Omega (as Aleph and Tau), the beginning and the end, given form through Heh. We have placed it now above our heads, as the symbol of eternity, of the universe as it exists infinitely, of the non-restraint of eternity. It simply is.
Moreover, we address it in English as "Thou"-- that is to say, that which is beyond us, that which we cannot understand but can simply recognize as existing. Note that 406 is S(1-28).[1] This will take on more significance as the analysis progresses.

placed this "form" in Yesod, that is, we have given ourselves form,
and by virtue of the Hebrew "![]()

we assert that our form is that of Man. I might remark that among the
Qabbalists, Adam signifies Tiphereth, which is only partly correct. While it
does acknowledge the divine spirit (

and thus consciousness, it also signifies Yesod illuminated by Tiphereth,
which is the root of the sexual force, and the ability to create. "Only
when the sun shines, can the moon give off light." Also, 45 is the mystic
number of Yesod, and of Yetzirah, the "Astral" world above Assiah,
the Material Plane.

Abrahadabra Vox of Chief Seer 418
Abrahadabra, the "Word of the Aeon" as revealed to us by Aleister Crowley. We have placed this word of the Aeon in its proper place-- Chesed, which corresponds to matter, and the law of the material plane. (The context of this plane is man purely in his biological form, as nothing more than "matter". Abrahadabra is the formula by which the limits of matter can be surpassed.)[3]
However, we have
also activated Chokmah by virtue of Abrahadabra being "the Voice of the
Chief Seer", the creative word of the Aeon. Also, Abrahadabra is the same

Amadeus Love God 111
Amadeus, the outer order name of ***** ******. Below is an excerpt from his diary entry on the day of its discovery:[4]
Lastly, I think I have found my "Magickal" (OTO) Order name. It will be "Frater Amadeus". In Latin it translates to "He who Loves God", "Beloved of God", or "LoveGod", and in a Latin-English mix, it can be read as "Am a God". It numerates to 111 counting the Mem regularly, and to 671 counting the Mem as a Mem Sofit, or Final Mem. Both of these numbers have extra-ordinary significance in Liber 777.
Oddly enough, this has been part of my Edward A. Wolfe pseudonym for quite some time (but never originally so). I never seriously considered it as anything more, until just recently-- when I was practising my signature. In writing "Amadeus", I inadvertently made the "A" look like a Pentagram (see Figure 1):

Figure 1
This made me stop for a moment to reflect, especially since earlier that day, out of the blue, a friend remarked to me that I "look" like an "Amadeus", whatever the hell that means.
Amadeus is the key to existence.[5] It unlocks all doors and provides safe passage through "the Abyss". It represents none less than the Holy Guardian Angel of the Aeon.[6] It is the highest formula of the Rose Cross yet revealed to us, being the Philosopher's stone that has been searched for through all time.
It is the word of a Magus, being partly true ("Love God") and partly false ("Beloved of God"). Adept magickians will note that the latter view implies a point of view, or ego.
There is however, a more esoteric interpretation.
Amadeus is the son, itself a new being but formed from the supernal barren mother (Ama) fertilized by the God (Deus). Amadeus, the "Beloved of God" is then Ra-Hoor-Khuit, the mystical union of will and love, the unity of the son bound with a crown, here a mystery of Venus, for it reflects the wonderment of life, the pure joy which all motion through the universe is-- it represents the spiritual purpose each creation has, that which makes it special-- which is why it exists in the first place.[7]
And this is too expressed by the latin-english mix "Am a deus", that is, "Am a God".
But Amadeus is not merely descriptive of the son; it contains within itself a formula of initiation.
For Amadeus is not a noun, but a verb, and as a verb it is an injunction to LOVE GOD, that is, to both accept and emulate the masculine (phallic, will-ful) side of one's self, and to respect and admire with wonder all that which will has placed in one's path (for one never knows when a certain chance symbol may be of supreme importance-- "the stone that the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner.")
It shows us that unity is to be found through AMA (love) and DEUS (will) and thus represents the Thelemic code "Love is the Law, Love under Will" in it's highest and most esoteric form.
Amadeus numerates to 111,
and to 671 with the Mem taken as a Mem Sofit. 111 is the number of Aleph (![]()
![]()
,
111), and implies the highest unity. It is the same "God of Justice"
written of in the Enochian calls,[8] and the
AUM (![]()

![]()
![]()
![]()
![]()

,
111) which, by virtue of Elohim (the masculine plural of a feminine singular),
again asserts the god-nature within all things.[9]
In An Essay on Number, Crowley writes, "This is the most clear
and definite help we have yet had, showing Samadhi and the Destruction of the
Ego as gates of our final victory."
We find 671 as the number
of Adonai, the Holy Guardian Angel, spelt in full (![]()

identity of the Augoeides with the Way itself ("I am the Way, the Truth,
and the Life") and shows the Taro as a key; and that the Law itself is
nothing else than this."[10]
The Word of Manifold Power
These five words become one word, and through it we are able partake of the deepest mysteries of the Aeon. The word itself is a praise or hymn to Ra-Hoor-Khuit:
Thou Man [the] Terror[ful] Voice of the Chief Seer [who is] AMADEUS [Ra-Hoor-Khuit, the supreme unity of love and will].
.
.
.
.
.
is the hidden heart of Abrahadabra (as [A]br[A]h[A]d[A]br[A]) and may be
understood thusly:
| Word | Objective Universe | Subjective Universe |
| ATH | THE UNIVERSE | [Higher Consciousness] |
| AMDVS | CONSCIOUSNESS | [Consciousness] |
| ADM | BIOLOGICAL MAN | [Sub-consciousness] |
| AYMH | FORM | [Love/Desire] |
| ABRAHADABRA | ENERGY | [Will/Desire] |
Note how this formula unites the universe into unity through Abrahadabra and Amadeus. Moreover, this formula is universal for it is infinite-- within A.A.A.A.A. we find Abrahadabra, which itself contains A.A.A.A.A.-- thus creating an endless cycle. ("In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God".)
Crowley writes much on the subject of Abrahadabra, especially in Liber 777. Within the context of the revelations below, it should suffice only to know that ABRAHADABRA links the Pentagram with the Hexagram (man’s will with the universe’s) and represents the "great work" complete. BRHDBR (6 letters diverse, the Hexagram) represents the universe as love, and AAAAA (5 letters unified, the Pentagram) represents the universe as energy.
As energy, we find:

I take ![]()

![]()
![]()
to be Hadit, "the breath of God which was not, yet set all to motion",
or even "None, breathed the light, faint & faery, of the stars, and
two." from Liber ![]()
.
Aleph is not only the Hebrew letter of Spirit, but also of the silent breath. Interestingly, the silent breath too does not "exist", that is, it does not make a sound-- but still it provides the basis for all spoken words, which in the metaphors of magick, is life itself.
As a mandala we find:
AAAAA as the Pentagram:

Figure 2
Note the Pentagram shape is formed entirely from five rotated Letters "A".
AAAAA as the Point:

Figure 3
We find that AAAAA has no "true" sigil. On the rose cross all we get is a point (See Figure 3). "it exists"-- Hadit.
AAAAA as the Cone:

Figure 4
The English "A", by shape, represents a cone. That is, the harmony and interconnectedness of the circle and the point, and thus is another paragon of the Great Work complete. In Figure 4, we find a three-dimensional, stylized, representation of a cone, based upon AAAAA as the pentagram.
The Paths
In turn, this invocation has formed the following paths within us:
Kether to Yesod 451
As we have begun the rite proper by drawing down our spiritual essence and defining it based on our spiritual understanding of the universe, we have allowed ourselves to be absorbed into Yesod, the Astral World, by attraction to the divine light of Kether. This path represents our aspirations, and hews within us our first focus, which is Evolution. Through this, we have established a link between our higher consciousness and lower consciousness.
Geburah/Binah to Chesed/Chokmah 474 Da’ath
Note how the
Universe (Nuit) co-joined with Motion (Hadit) creates the perception of Da’ath
(![]()
![]()
,
Da’ath, 474) to everything below the Abyss-- Da’ath defined here as
movement through the universe creating the illusions of time and of a know-er
and a thing known.
We are victims of this illusion for only so long as we allow ourselves to be. Overcoming Da’ath is a conscious decision, not a spiritual grace. It comes from a re-evaluation of what we perceive ourselves to be.
We proceed to destroy Da’ath by consciously aligning our material-world understanding of this concept to a spiritual one.
With the destruction of Da’ath, we permit the divine light of Kether to flow freely into both Tiphereth and Yesod, thereby illuminating us.
Kether to Tiphereth 517
517 can be directly
related to the solar God Horus (![]()
![]()
![]()
,
Hoor, 217) illuminated by the Holy Spirit (
,
Shin, 300).[12]
Tiphereth to Yesod 156 Babalon
We have united our conscious and subconscious mind and released control of them to our higher self. Thus, we have, as far as we exist below the Abyss, become Babalon, the perfect vehicle for our higher self to manifest.
The Pantacle of the Middle Pillar
(Kether to Tiphereth to Yesod)
Notice how the Middle Pillar presented here reflects the pantacle of the OTO system of Magick, being the Holy Spirit’s decent into the Womb of Babalon.
The Cross of the Man
(Tiphereth to Yesod) and (Geburah/Binah to Chesed/Chokmah)
(156) + (474) = 630
By aligning ourselves to the lower tree in our rite, we have made the divine to manifest through us, and thus have reached our own "salvation". 156 + 474 = 630.
630 numerates to "Ruacha Kadasha" or "The Holy Spirit", the "Seraphim" (the Angels of Geburah, and of Kether of Briah), and numerically can be broken down into the interplay of 7 x 6 x 5 x 3, that is 5 = 6 within the interplay of the 7 and the 3.
Expressed below are some of the interactions of this interplay, which might better define this number.
630 = "![]()
![]()

with Kaph taken in final form-- "Thine Eye", or the Eye of Horus.

Figure 5
(a perfected Diagram of the Eye of Horus, that is, the phallus and yoni co-joined is provided as Figure 5)
3 x 210 = Dissolution (2->1->0) through Silence (3).
9 x 70 = "
",
Teth, the Serpent (9) and "
",
Ayin, the Spirit (70).
10 x 63 = "![]()
",
63, the Secret Nature of Briah manifest.
15 x 42 = "![]()
",
15, the phallic force, being thrust into "![]()
![]()

42, Ama, the unfertile mother.
21 x 30 = "![]()
![]()
![]()
",
21, "I am" and "![]()
![]()
![]()
",
30, "It will be".
We can hold 630 to contain the synthesis of these ideas, being "will", "movement", "life", or even "eternity".
The insights derived from this Qabbalistic dissection give us the keys to destroy our false selves: Consciousness (6) to Annihilation (3) to Cosmic Consciousness (0). In short, we find the idea of ego being dissolved in Binah to end in Annihilation, and also that of the Adept being crucified and reborn in Binah, attaining to dissolution.
The Illumed or Cosmic Man
(Kether) with (Tiphereth to Yesod) and (Geburah/Binah to Chesed/Chokmah)
406 + (474) + (156) = 1036 = 1->0->3->6 and 6->3->0->1[13]
Note how the 630 of above has reversed itself (via reflection through the Abyss) and is now illuminated by Kether (1000, or Aleph on the grand scale). From below the Abyss we perceive destruction, but this is illusory-- We are merely creating from above, from the supernals. Note how this number too expresses the whole of the ritual. Moreover, 1+0+3+6 = 10 = 1.
The Heart of the Master
We crown this "realignment" with Amen.
![]()
![]()
or "Amen", signifies by virtue of magickal law "As above, so
below, as within, so without", that all energy (through spoken word or
otherwise) expended [

]
brings change [
].
This is a most spiritual number, which reflects the nature of the Pelican
(Death as an act of Love) [![]()

as well as the way of Osiris, Jesus, or the Hanged Man; who does not truly
die, but rather gives up conscious control of his self to the universe.
Incidentally, if we
take the

as a Nun Sofit, or Final Nun, the opening cross numerates to 1777, that is,
the Spirit of Aleph Redeemed (becoming 1000 on the grand scale) bearing the
flaming sword.
In "The Law is
for All", a new formula for Amen was hinted at, and is now revealed.
Originally, I had used this formula in the opening cross, and although on
paper it works out flawlessly (that is, we become crowned with the Flaming
Sword, and the circle becomes the Ayin (
)

),
I have found from experience that this just leaves me unfocused, with a
painful Astral "buzz". Perhaps I am missing something, so I now
include my notes in their original form for private experimentation.

the letters of the four elements, are here used destructively. Crowley, in
"The Law is for All" describes a new formula of Amen, based on The
Book of the Law, wherein Harpocrates "the babe in the egg" is
Ayin, which when added to the number of the four elements gives us 811,
which is the Greek numeration of IAO.
I take this new
fourfold formula of Amen to be ![]()

,
which can be broken down as follows:
- A = [Spirit]
![]()
- Ash = Fire
![]()
- ShT = "Set", a foundation or basis, to

- ShTM = To open, uncork or unseal.
![]()
- TM = To be finished, perfect, destroyed. To cease or

completeness, perfection.

36 + 75 = 111 + 555 = 666 or the Sun exalted. I should mention that 666 is often misunderstood by the non-initiate. It is not "evil" in any "cosmic" sense. Strictly in terms of Qabbala, 666 represents our highest self (111) brought to enlightened consciousness (6).

HADIT 420
I have little to write on the formulae of Nu and Hadit. It should suffice to know that Nuit represents on a cosmic level "that which can be experienced" and Hadit "that which experiences". Of course, this may be applied on many different levels, i.e. "Thing-Seen and Seer", "Moved, and Mover", et. al. There is much written on the subject from Crowley and his contemporaries, and the interested reader should pursue further study there.

BABALON 156
As Nu is "that which is to be experienced" and Hadit is "that which experiences", Babalon is the more personal aspect of Nuit, the "fallen daughter" of YHVH, being the part of our own subjective existence which "receives all impressions". It is the vehicle by which our own consciousness may be redeemed through the total acceptance of all things. It is from this, that in a mystical sense Babalon was considered a "harlot" or "whore".
The Circle:
Taking only the first letters of each quarter, we get E.H.N.B. This forms the great name of Spirit that reconciles the Enochian Tablet of Union.
More importantly,
taking the West, South and North quarters we get "![]()

an alternate spelling of Binah, the barren womb.[14]
These three quarters form Binah as a parabola, or crescent moon. The initials
of the eastern quarter form the Phallus as a point. This is yet another
formula of "the Beast and Babalon".

The Communion
The adoration A KA DUA is another excerpt from the Stélé 666. Once again Ankh-f-n-Khonsu, "the Lord of Thebes", speaks, but this time he has reached the crux of his journey-- communion with his own higher self. Crowley paraphrased this adoration "Unity uttermost showed! I adore the might of Thy breath, Supreme and terrible God, Who makest the gods and death To tremble before Thee:-- I, I adore Thee!".
We too have reached the crux of our journey. There are many magickal and mystical formulae at work here that I hasten to comment upon, though one need not understand them to benefit from their use. The invocation here translates to "Remember! O Remember! O IAO! O Suedama! O! O Suedama! IA!".
The signs of N.O.X. further align us, but ("if I droop forth my head and shoot forth venom, then I and the earth shall be one") also serves to align our magick circle, our universe, and even our immediate environment. In this sense, the rite acts as a "banishment" -- but in a deeper sense, we have aligned our universe with understanding, that we may work in an environment purified thereby -- the task of the magister. In this aspect, the laws of cause and effect may be understood with a greater clarity.
Moreover, by purifying ourselves and our environment, we also purify to some extent those around us. Use of this ritual then initiates a mass change in consciousness, for as we each align as individuals to the higher within us, we thus become linked by our own spiritual nature. Further, as we become linked, we create an Astral Entity out of our combined spiritual consciousness. This entity is none other than the Holy Guardian Angel of the Aeon.
The Virtues
To put perspective on this chapter I was given a vision that can only be described as insight into the "spiritual essence" of feudalism. Before me, I saw many medieval-styled "Coat of Arms", each with fantastic and mythical creatures depicted. I understood that each Coat of Arms was the achievement of a King, and the creatures thereupon were metaphors for the ideals and virtues he embraced. It was through the King’s dedication to these virtues and ideals that he rose to become more than "just a man". For while virtues have power in themselves, when manifest in the world of men through a king, mighty are they indeed. My vision continued to show how both knights, and priests, and nobles were true to their king and his ideals, yet each in their own manner. Nobles would apply the king’s chosen virtues to business and rhetoric, and so align those of a lesser nature – to form a society based upon common values. The knights would "quest" to foreign lands and "challenge" those of different ideals.[15] Of course, as circumstance changed and with evolution of ideas over time, so did kings rise and fall. And therein was found the prophecy that someday, the "one true king" (he whose ideals were in greatest harmony with the universe, and thus most powerful), would reign supreme and so "heal the land".
Traditionally, we find "to know", "to will", "to dare", and "to keep silent". With the exception of "to keep silent", I do not like these at all and tend to believe they are more the result of misguided intellectualism than anything else.
We use:
Truth:
Truth, even when it hurts, sets us free. What is "hurt", is really our ego – how we would want or like the situation or point of view to cater to our prejudice. Truth re-aligns our false understanding of a circumstance with its reality. It provides a genuine understanding of ourselves, and the universe around us.
Being true to yourself brings with it purity of works. Accepting the truth that others bring to you, brings humility of spirit, and the recognition of your own spirit in all things.
Love:
Love is here represented in its spiritual sense, as a combination of understanding and acceptance. It is through "selfless" love that we accept change, the basis for our evolution. It is the virtue that provides form and binds the other virtues together.
Courage:
Courage is not "not being afraid". It is "moving on in spite of fear" -- it is through courage that we are given the power to confront and overcome that which enslaves us. Fear itself serves the great work in the form of a challenge – is your will to achieve a certain end stronger than the fear of change that comes with it? The highest challenge is whether or not you are prepared to die for what you believe.
It requires courage to accept courage at the expense of weaker virtues.
Responsibility:
Responsibility means following through with what you have accepted as truth, by taking action on it. Often times taking responsibility requires challenging certain aspects or prejudices that you may have.
Regardless of whether you perceive it or not, you are responsible for all the choices you make. Ultimately, who you are, right here, right now, is the sum of your choices.
It is through responsibility that we uncover our true will.
Acceptance of responsibility is an acknowledgement of your will and worth.
The virtues presented are meant only as a guide and these should change as the adept better understands his own function and relationship to the universe.
The concept is that each of the virtues should equate to something in the universe that allows the adept to overcome obstacles to accomplish his will. With experience as a teacher, it would seem that virtues that are in accord with the nature of the four elements and the universe in general would bring the most balance and success.
The Coming Forth by Day
We have communed with our higher self, and armed ourselves with the tools to achieve our will. We acknowledge this ceremonial journey of Ankh-f-n-Khonsu, from life to death to rebirth, now complete, as the "love-promise" of Nuit. We acknowledge our heart and purpose, now renewed, as Hadit. Lastly, we call upon the formulae of sharing, and acknowledge Ma’at.
Anew, we end as we began, to close the rite.
And, like Ankh-f-n-Khonsu, we journey forth, our pleasure on the earth to do among the living.

FOOTNOTES:
[1] 28, the mystic number of Netzach being 4 * 7 as well as S(1-7). This is a perfect number, for it shows us that even in division or loss of unity (4 * 7) we find the purity of a new beginning.
406 is then the extension of this, for it shows the cyclic nature of existence as love, containing within itself the beginning and end of all things.
Interestingly,
we also find that 406 is the number of "![]()
"
(UT) which is Greek for "Not" (as in Utopia).

= 231 = 77 * 3, 21 * 11, and S(1-21).
Similar to Atoh, this shows us that there is always truth S(1-21),
even in what is perceived as a division of truth (11*21). To an infinite, all
things are true-- only to a linear is truth relative to conditions.
[3] The subjective communicated through objective.
[4] Attempts to link Amadeus with Wolfgang Mozart have only little merit, as it was once explained to me over the Usenet newsgroups:
"His baptismal certificate reads Joannes [sic] Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus. It became Gottlieb by German translation, but when he began to run around with the Italians (as early as his childhood) it was translated as Amade or Amadeus. His preferred signature was Wolfgang Amade Mozart. Amadeus as common usage was superimposed on him posthumously by the same people who created the spun-sugar, rosy-cheeked darling of the Victorian era."
We find more appropriately and esoterically applied, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten [most beloved] Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
[5] Some might say, "the key of it all".
[6] Aiwass was the Messenger of the Gods, the Aeon reflection of Hadit into Mercury. Amadeus is Hadit's Aeon reflection into Tiphereth, as Ra-Hoor-Khuit.
[7] Compare also what is said here with the Priest's "third-step" commentary from Liber XV, "The Gnostic Mass".
[8] The first line of the first key of the Enochian calls, answering to Spirit is "I reign over you Saith the God of Justice, in power exhaulted above the firmament of Wrath."
Aleph

Spirit (
,
Aleph in the Tarot is the Fool, and "Spirit").
Justice (
,
Lamed, in the Tarot is Justice, and Libra).
Wrath (
,
Peh, in the Tarot is the Tower, and Mars).
![]()
God of Justice (![]()
in Hebrew is God).
![]()
![]()
then is the God of Justice exhaulted above the firmament of Wrath.
[9] The prime lesson found here is that ALL things are GOD and that GOD is ONE (that is, all things are linked through their God-nature) and to deny any-thing love we only deny ourselves of our own spirituality. This shows the path to spirit as being one without attachment to ego.

[11] Note the flawless perfection in the synthesis of all these qualities of energy in one creation, and the progression, from energy in its most spiritual form (0) to its most earthly form (666), with all forms in-between defined.
[12] In the system of Frater Achad, the path of Shin links Kether with Tiphereth.
[13] There is much of interest in the analysis of 1036. The interplay or 28 * 37 and 7 * 148 for example. 37 is described in Liber 777 to represent the Hindu "Jediciah" or highest aspect of the human soul; or though a Qabbalistic analysis too detailed to present here: Hadit; "the flame that burns in every heart of man". 28 is the "mystic" number of Netzach, and a perfect number. 148 is Netazch spelled in full. Therefore does this represent attainment to the crown by victorius Babalon.
